THE WINNER:

"Last year My Dad and I went fishing for chum salmon at Nicomen slough Mission B.C.. My dad told me if I caught a chum it would be my first, so I hooked into one. then when it was close to shore Dad said back up so there wasn't as much of an angle. I backed up but it was really hard because I had to back up onto boulders up a hill. I tried hard not to slip and still hold my rod tip up. Then my dad said watch out when the fishes belly touches the rocks he will take off into the water again. Sure enough that happened and I went flying down the hill with my rod still up in the air and my eyes 2" big. I made it done to the shore without tripping. My dad had to catch me when I got close to shore so that I wouldn't get pulled into the water from the fish. It took a while longer but I finally got the fish in. He was really big. I was happy and proud of myself that I got my first chum salmon in all by myself."

THE 1st RUNNER-UP:

"On my summer vacation last year we went to Hope, B.C. to try salmon fishing in the Fraser River. I went with my Dad, Mom and older brother. We met my aunt, uncle and cousins in Hope. I had never fished for salmon before and I was really excited, we usually just fish in the lakes for trout. We all got up really early in the morning and headed down to the mighty Fraser River. We had to park the truck and walk for about ten minutes to the river. There was alot of fisherman along the shore. We all found a spot on the river and started to cast our rods. On my second cast I felt something on my line. I was so excited as I reeled my line in. I got the salmon to shore all by myself. I was so proud holding my fish as my mom took my picture. My dad help me clean it up and I went back to fish. As I was getting ready to cast my rod again the old man I was fishing beside said that should of been my fish I've been here for hours. I said must be first time lucky. I cast my rod about three more time and bang I had another salmon on. I landed that one again all by myself. Nexted thing I saw was the old man packing up all his gear and leaving. I'm looking forward to another trip to the Fraser this summer."

THE 2nd RUNNER-UP:

"I have only gone fishing a few times. I got someone to take me to the Vedder River after I saved all my Paperboy money to buy some equipment. I spent almost $100.00. I didn't catch any Steelhead because I lost both of my Gibbs Jumbo Willowleaf sets that I bought. My friend told me that I wasn't supposed to use Willowleafs in the Vedder river cause the water is to fast. It does not matter to me cause I had lots of fun anyways."
